Peter is a senior practitioner with more than 40 years’ experience and a deep well of expertise in property law, particularly in the local government sector. Having joined Tompkins Wake as a Partner in 2006, Peter now serves as a Consultant, continuing to support the firm’s clients and lawyers with the same care, insight, and precision that have defined his career.

Recognised by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific as a recommended lawyer, Peter has been instrumental in delivering property law advice to a number of the firm’s longstanding local government clients, including Hamilton City Council and Rotorua Lakes Council. His advice is highly valued for its clarity, strategic foresight, and deep understanding of the legislative and practical frameworks in which councils operate.

Peter also acts as a trusted advisor to many of the firm’s high-net-worth private clients. His practice includes strategic asset planning, inter-generational succession, and trust and asset restructuring. He is a trustee of several discretionary family trusts, reflecting the long-standing confidence his clients place in him.

Peter continues to play an integral role within Tompkins Wake, mentoring lawyers and supporting the development of the next generation of legal talent. He is a generous and thoughtful mentor, and a guiding presence for many of the firm’s younger partners.
