Tompkins Wake advises animal genetics disruptor on start-up and capital raise

Animal genetics disruptor Thermo Regulatory Genetics Limited (TRG) formed in 2018 to globalise the development of thermogenetics in breeding bulls. TRG’s goal is to produce dairy cows that can perform in tropical countries without being affected by heat stress.
The Tompkins Wake team, led by Commercial partner Phil Taylor, assisted by partner Bryce Davy and solicitor Samantha Lee, acted on the formation of TRG, advising on subscription and the shareholders’ agreement, and compliance with Financial Markets legislative requirements.
TRG has identified a gene called the ‘slick gene’, which allows dairy cows to thrive in hot and humid conditions while maintaining, and even improving, milk production. Cows with the slick gene are able to better regulate their body temperature and can maintain their milk yield under heat stress.
Tompkins Wake acted for TRG in its first round of capital raising which has enabled TRG to lead the development of the slick nucleus in many of its target markets, such as the Philippines, Vietnam, Central American and Africa. TRG owns the world’s first homozygous dairy cross breed bulls, and the largest and most diverse Homozygous bull team genotypes and is well-placed to lead the way in the future breeding development of heat tolerant dairy cows.
